What we collect
- Nothing about you, directly. There are no accounts, sign-ups or forms that send us your information.
- No tracking. We use no third-party analytics, no advertising or tracking cookies, no tracking pixels and no third-party trackers. To see which pages are useful, the site counts page views and time on page as monthly totals per page. We store no IP address, cookie or visitor ID, and nothing you type.
- Visit counts. We count visits the privacy-friendly way. We use simple counters on our own server to see which pages and inventions are viewed most and for how long, so we can improve BioTech Encyclopedia. It uses no cookies, doesn't identify you or your child, doesn't build profiles, and isn't used for advertising. We only see totals. The totals are kept on Cloudflare, our hosting service provider.
- Site search runs in your browser. Your searches are not sent to us.
Hosting logs
The site is hosted on Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes standard technical request data (such as IP address, browser type and the pages requested) to deliver the site and protect it from attacks. We don't use this to identify or profile anyone. Cloudflare's privacy policy is at cloudflare.com/privacypolicy.
Links to other sites
We link to outside sites (for example to research papers, Crossref, OpenAlex and free-to-read copies). Those sites have their own privacy policies, and what they collect is up to them.
Tips
If we add a way to pay in the future, it will be for optional tips to help keep the site running. Tips are not donations and are not tax-deductible, and this site is not a charity or non-profit. Any tip would be handled by a third-party payment provider, under its own privacy policy; we would not see or store your card details. We will update this page before any tip option goes live.
Children
This site is meant for a general audience and doesn't knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13.
